CHEF IN THE CLASSROOM

CAMBRIDGE ELEMENTARY
Each grade gets to experience one CIC a year. During that time, local Chef Gene Gowan prepares a healthy recipe while showing the kids how math, science, and reading can all tie into the kitchen. They learn where the particular food items come from and how they are grown. The students then get to try the food and take home the recipe.

CAMBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL
This is a four day, hands-on learning and cooking experience with the Freshman Health Class once a semester (so every Freshman will have the opportunity). They learn a handful of breakfast recipes, soup, salad, and sandwiches, and Chickpeas three ways! Each student gets their own CIC recipe book with all the recipes plus a few more as well as pantry items, tips in the kitchen, glossary and much more.

CAMBRIDGE FOOD PANTRY
Chef in the Classroom at the Food Pantry launched in Feb 2025. This event happens six times a year for the Food Pantry patrons. A local Chef creates a quick and healthy recipe using ingredients that are staples at the Food Pantry. The Chef then makes the recipe during shopping time and the patrons get to try it as wellas get the recipe and the ingredients.
COMPOST AND RECYCLING PROGRAMS

GREEN TEAM
The Green Team is a volunteer group of students that get trained to help with food waste at lunch. They help students know which remaining parts of their lunches are recyclable, compostable, and what items belong in the trash. They work together to help keep
over 400 milk cartons and fruit cups from hitting the landfill as well as over
25 pounds of food out of the landfill each day!

ALTERNATIVE RECYCLING PROGRAM
The 2022-2023 Green Team started an Alternative Recycling Program. The community can recycle toothbrushes, tooth paste, other dental products, drink pouches, and food pouches. You can drop-off at CES and the Cambridge Community Library.
Also F2S collects broken Christmas Tree lights every year and take them to be recycled. In 2025, 205pounds was collected and recycled.
